Drinking culture in Korea

When you go travel in Korea and stay there a couple days, you would notice that Korean people drink soju like water. Almost everyone and every table order at least 1 to 2 bottles of soju during lunch and dinner.

The soju in Korea only cost $1 USD per bottle in average and they have wide selection of soju on the market. There are soju packaging like a soda can and taste like juice. Those soju can usually come with grape, strawberry and passionfruit.To Korean people, alcohol becomes an essential part of daily life like water and most of their drinking choice is soju.

Why Korean people drink so much?

In fact, Korean people do not think that they drink so much and they believe that drinking is beneficial to society and people because alcohol can relieve stress since Korean is one of the countries have longest working hours in the world. Korean people especially the young generation have lack of awareness on drink problem and they can take 14 shots per day in average.

There is another fact why Korean people drink so much because in their culture, saying no is generally consider rude. If you go to a drinking occasion and people try to pour you a drink and you refuse, they might think you are antisocial or being impolite.
